Serial number is D501xxx which makes it a 1968 model. Unfortunately it is missing the magnum cylinder. This is the Single Six I found last week in Gulf Shores. It has the matching D501xxx serial number on it. Less that 5000 of the million+ Single Six’s have the “D” stamp.Īlso included with it was the box. Number 500021 don’t have the stamp and have been found so if they were shipped in order that means up to 421 could possible not have the “D” stamp. Several hundred had already been shipped. They must have had several employees doing the stamping because there were at least three different "D"'s used. They grabbed some “D” stamps, went to the warehouse and stamped a “D” indicating duplicate in front of the serial numbers of the ones that were still in stock. At the 505,140 mark someone remembered that they had already used these numbers. Fast forward to 1968 and Single Six production reached 500,000. They started the serial numbers for this version at 500,000. That year Ruger introduced the Super Single Six which was a Single Six with adjustable sights. In 1964 Single Six serial numbers were at around 380,XXX. This is what I found about it online about it. It's not rare but this marking is scarce.
